The Ashcroft AATB centre diff automatically limits propshaft speed difference and shifts torque to the axle with traction, without any driver input. You get better traction in unlocked mode and full lock capability when you need it, while eliminating the main failure point of the stock unit.
Ideal for mixed or changing surfaces where locking the diff isn't always practical, the AATB responds to traction conditions automatically, with no driver input required.
The stock LT230 centre diff has a known weakness: if a wheel loses traction on a slippery surface, the planet gears can be forced to spin far beyond their design limits and fail within seconds. The AATB eliminates this risk.
There are 2 different types, being there are 2 different diameters of spline used for the high/low selector hub, the one you need can be identified by either the serial number or vehicle type, Type A is 54mm dia, Type B is 58mm dia
Type A – RRC, Disco 1, all Defender pre TD5, Serial numbers starting 20D, 22D, 25D, 26D, 28D, 29D, 36D, 37D
Type B – Disco 2, TD5 and TDCi Defenders, Serial numbers starting 41D, 42D, 43D, 57D, 60D, 61D, 62D, 68D, 69D, 70D, 80D, 81D
We recommend using EP80/90 oil.
Note : Due to the nature of the AATB diff we do not recommend the vehicle is brake tested on rollers, ask for a decelerometer to be used instead.
